Springtime is Here!

Springtime is here and with it a whole adventure awaits. It is time to get the garden ready for planting, whether it be a flower or vegatable garden. In my case it will be both. Yes,it is time to awaken the ground from it's slumber and prepare it to produce wonderful tasting vegtables and beautiful flowers and shrubs. I have a little trick that I use every spring that has always served me well. Some may want to try it while others may not. Before I till the ground, I take some amonia that you use for cleaning and put it in my garden spray bottle, that hooks to my hose and I dowse my garden with it. I then proceed to till it in. Then, I just sit and wait, for at least 10 days before planting. You see amonia is nitrogen and nitrogen is a necessary element for plants, but if you plant too early it can also burn up your seeds or tender roots. So remember at least 10 days. This has always given my garden a good boost in starting the seeds or young plants until they can become established. WARNING: you do not want to do this where there is already growth as it will burn the plant.

Tending the Soil

Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!”
~Robin Williams

I would like to talk about Soil and how it affects, our garden.

Some soils are clay and dense, if your soil is like this you will know

from puddles that are slow to drain in the spring rains.

Or you might have the opposite, which would be a sandy soil,

that all the nourishing spring rain just runs through and in this

case your plants will dry out and burn in the summer sun.

The answer to this is the same for both types, you must add some

humus and or peat moss, some organic material will take care

of this for you and you will have a beautiful garden.
